Are You Physical Or Digital? Maison Bosi's Exhibition on Occasion of The Rome Future Week

Are you physical or digital?

After the success of their first digital art exhibition in Rome in January 2023, on September 13th Maison Bosi presented "Are you Physical or Digital?" on occasion of the Rome Future Week, with a special talk.

Curated by Serena Tabacchi, the exhibition spotlighted internationally acclaimed artists Andrea Bonaceto, Skygolpe, Giovanni Motta, and Jacopo di Cera — their physical and digital works standing side by side, conveying the nuances, contrasts, and connections of both realms.

The talk, moderated by journalist Clelia Patella and enriched with insights from journalist and art curator Gabriele Simongini, addressed key questions: Why collect one form of art over another? What are the advantages or challenges in each medium?

FW INTERVIEWS

- Frenetik Void in conversation with Fakewhale

Frenetik Void is an Argentinian 3D artist who creates vivid renderings of romantic post-humans and enigmatic creatures set against harsh, inhospitable environments. In Fakewhale’s most recent interview, he shared the intricacies of his artistic process, sharing the inspiration behind his distinctive blend of surrealism, grotesqueness, and digital finesse.

“Transfiguring reality is something that I naturally have affinity with. I always try to turn things into something else and live in my fantasy realm. I’m constantly shifting to imaginary words through video games and anime but also it’s something I organically developed from my connection to dreams. I use my subconscious imagery a lot. There are things, shapes, characters that appear constantly in my life, then I turn that into my artworks.”

- Blockchain as a New Medium for Art: An Insight by Mimi Nguyen

In her latest FW ROOMS publication, Mimi Nguyen analyzes the recent “Proof of X” exhibition series held in Japan last June, drawing on the first-person perspectives of Takase Toshi — director of the Japan Generative Art Foundation and a featured artist.

Takase-san notes, “NFTs with a traditional art focus were not widely recognized in Japan.” This recognition gap propelled media artists to unite, addressing the question of how to integrate NFT technology into the realm of art. Their collaboration became an avenue for innovative exploration, challenging norms, and envisioning NFTs as instruments for artistic evolution.

This emergence occurred against the backdrop of the “crypto winter,” a period characterized by volatile shifts in the NFT market. In response, the “Proof of X” series embarked on a pivotal shift, transitioning its focus to the underlying technology of NFTs—blockchain. Takase-san emphasizes that this shift aimed to present art’s potential over a prolonged timeline, decoupling it from the ebb and flow of market fluctuations.

- Anti-crash_jpg by Scerbo – an interview with Unknown Collector

Ahead of next week’s release of “Anti-crash_jpeg” by Scerbo on Verse, curated by Fakewhale, Unknown Collector caught up with Scerbo to learn more about the inspiration behind the series.

This series embodies the onslaught of relentless data that shapes our lives, portraying visions that are both fragmented and reassembled by the flood of information.

The works are not merely distortions, but revelations, reflecting the invisible networks and pulsating veins of data that both feed our understanding and cloud our perceptions.

In creating, Scerbo sacrifices conceptual rigor for the sake of expressing the chaotic beauty of our data-saturated existence.
