In this week’s issue we explore the latest in digital art news, from Harvey Rayner’s Quasi Dragon Studies Project, to an exclusive interview with Lolo & Sosaku and JPEGGALLERY’s latest piece on playing the long game as an artist.

On-co creation and co-curation: Harvey Rayner’s Quasi Dragon Studies Project

The buzzword “co-creation” has found itself overused in the NFT scene, but now, Harvey Rayner’s "Quasi Dragon Studies" (QDS) , a generative work, comes to offer a fresh understanding of genuine collaborative art — Moving beyond the traditional artist-viewer dynamic.

Moving away from the surface-level participatory nature of many projects, QDS aims to push the boundaries, enabling art collectors to play pivotal roles throughout the creation process. In fact, through tools like the "Composite Builder" and the innovative use of “Tiles”, collectors are not just witnessing art; they're actively crafting narratives and shaping the artwork's trajectory.

The duality of this approach, be it free artistic exploration or the meticulous creation of Black and White Dragons, poses an intriguing question: is it raw creative passion or the allure of uniqueness, rarity, that captivates us more?

The underlying foundation of QDS, with its intricately designed Tiles, encourages art collectors to use them as their canvas. As a result, each tile becomes more than just a fragment of digital information — it becomes a common language.

As Jamie Gourlay from Verse points out, QDS it's not just an art project; it's a visionary step towards a shared creative future.

In Dialogue with Lolo & Sosaku: An Interview by Nighttimestory

Lolo & Sosaku, two artists originating from Buenos Aires and Tokyo, present a captivating blend of sound, technology, and visual art from their base in Barcelona. Their journey has been characterized by serendipitous parallels, such as both watching the Evangelion series in 1996, each from different continents.

Central to their work is the incorporation of self-designed machinery, highlighting their belief that technology can be both functional and artistic. This nexus between art and mechanics is further displayed in their recent exhibition, Spectrum Motion, at Taipei's Double Square Gallery where the installation bridges various art forms: painting, video, sculpture, and human-machine interaction.
